Submitted By Ben (poisonousinsect)

Description

Atomos 2.5 is here. Still the same retro aliased Monaco 10pt fonts, now with real transparency.

Requires Adium 1.0, and will look wrong (no shadows) on older versions. Make sure "Use custom background" is unchecked in the Messages preferences.

Variants:
  • Black, Iconless
  • Black, Icons
  • Smoke, Iconless
  • Smoke, Icons
  • White, Solid, Iconless (pictured below)
  • White, Solid, Icons (default)
  • White, Transparent, Iconless
  • White, Transparent, Icons
We hope you like it!

This thing is totally sweet! I wish this would've been out months ago, it would've solved many problems with my old message view style.

Wonderful.

It doesn't quite fit with Mac OS X (It's pixelated) but if it was antialiased, it'll be better. Is it a transparent background?

zaudragon: As far as I could figure, transparent background just render as white. You have to make an image of the portion of your desktop picture that's behind the window and set that to the message view's background. (If you or anyone else knows how to give Atomos a real transparent background, please share!)

If you must have antialiasing, you could try setting the minimum font size to 11pt, but I'm not sure how well that works.

Thanks for everyone's feedback!

poisonousinsect: Transparent message styles are not possible in 10.3, due to limitations with the webkit. The message through the grapevine says that 10.4 will support this, but don't take that as certain.

thesilverfox: Thanks for the info - I figured that might be the case. Let's hope they will fix this, since it would make a lot of very cool message views possible - and make Atomos even better.

I could do transparency sorta, I just don't know how to make styles lol. If you mean true transparency as in like this forums signature:

http://www.chaosvent.com/gfx/sigs.../SabSs2.gif

the outside is 100% transparent, will show any color through it, haven't tried it on a site that uses BG colors though.

I could make a border that would make the inside transparent, but that's as much as I know with photoshop :/, though I will be looking that up ;)

Saboter, he means transparency to the desktop level as opposed to within the actual window, if this is supported in 10.4 wow! I'd like to try use that myself, anyone know if this happened?

# by poisonousinsect on 07/19/05 at 18:13:27

Saboter: As Orta Therox says, I'm talking about transparency where you could see whatever is behind the message window--Atomos already has some transparency options (that is, the bubbles can be transparent over the message view background, but objects behind the window are still obscured). Orta Therox: Adium currently doesn't support this under any OS version, and according to the Trac database at http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/131, it never will.

Actually, it does now (in 1.0svn). :)

Yes, I noticed. ;-)

I like this. It is interesting and I like how the icons are, as you say, 'iconless varients'. Good work! :]

I made a mistake in my comment, so ignore the 'iconless varients' bit.
I meant to point out that I like how the icons are black and white, but I think that's just the way your icon is.

I actually downloaded this when you first released it, but I see that I somehow forgot to comment DX
Anyway, this is a really awesome style; I've been using it for a while and I haven't gotten tired of it, which is something, because I normally have the attention-span of a retarded flea. xD
