Quick Status

Quick Status

Submitted By Diatribe

Description

Quick Away is now Quick Status
It's for all those situations where you need to quickly set an away, brb or available status. It also gives you the possibility to have the status returned to the person(s) you're chatting with.

Commands:

/brb - will set your away to "be right back" and will write the same to the person you're speaking to
/otp - the same just with "on the phone"
/b - this will set your status to available again and will write back

Adding a space and an all to the commands will return the message to every open message window.
Like: /brb all

The following are a bit different:

/aw {text} - will set your away to the text in the parentheses
/aw re {text} - will set your away to the text in the parentheses and return the text to the current person you are chatting with
/aw all {text} - will set your away to the text in the parentheses and return the text to all open message windows
/av {text} - will set your available message to the text in the parentheses

I hope you like it.

If you have any suggestions for improvement or more messages let me know.

Changes

Quick Away is now Quick Status

Added custom away/available settings.

If you have an earlier version of Quick Away installed you should go in your library/application support/adium 2.0/scripts folder and delete that version upon installing this one.

you might want to change the /brb command, its the same as the "/brb" script Submitted By Caius Durling (iNemo)

# by arisa on 01/24/06 at 14:08:44

If you don't use the scripts in conjunction, what's the trouble of it? Maybe I'm missing out on something obvious...

# by Diatribe on 10/15/05 at 10:24:42

Hmm... I liked it for simplicity. Any suggestions?

# by desk003 on 10/15/05 at 22:10:03

change /re to /b, not sure what re stands for (other than reply), but I use b for back, and brb for brb.

# by arisa on 10/28/05 at 00:17:49

I'm downloading the script now, but I'd love to see some room for user customization -- putting in your own shortcuts and the like. Just a thought. Interesting script, and definitely handy in theory, though. ^_^ Thanks!

# by Diatribe on 11/06/05 at 11:28:00

The thing is that there is no easy way to do that. You can however edit the .plist in the script to use your own shortcuts if you like.
If you have suggestions for improvement, different shortcuts or messages, let me know. :)

# by arisa on 01/24/06 at 14:08:01

How would I edit the .plist? Would you mind to walk me through it at some point? Email works best, if you didn't mind. It's in my profile. ^_^

# by superpants312 on 11/08/05 at 12:36:11

I loaded it, but I don't think it's working for me. If I /brb, all that shows up to the other person is "/brb"

# by superpants312 on 11/08/05 at 12:36:25

Oh, I restarted Adium too, and it still didn't work.

# by Diatribe on 11/08/05 at 14:17:11

Hmmm, I had similar problems during development of the script. Did you have an earlier version installed? For me reinstalling Adium fixed it. I don't know why but it worked. The script itself should be fine. Just to make sure I'll redownload it later today and try this version although I am pretty sure I am using the same version at home. Let me know if it still doesn't work for you after reinstalling and re-adding the script.

# by Diatribe on 11/08/05 at 14:18:48

Another thing... are the other commands working for you or are none of them working?

# by michael on 11/14/05 at 17:26:29

/b is too easy to do by accident IMO but this is nice don't get me wrong. what if i were to write about my "co-axial/bicord extention" lead. (yes i did just make that up, but look the point is it would trigger the script, and people dont generally remember to type spaces and other accurate punctuation during IMs) /back isn't too taxing as an alternative... or you could use the %_foobar type script that many others use...

# by Diatribe on 11/14/05 at 19:53:18

Slashes only work when at the beginning of a line, so "co-axial/bicord extension would be perfectly fine ;)

oh ok, excellent thanks :).

Nice one

# by Darkmaster on 11/29/05 at 18:36:26

But it doesn't work :(, my status doesn't change

# by Diatribe on 11/29/05 at 20:18:27

Hmm, that's weird I have tested it on two Macs and just again on mine. All of the commands work. Which ones are not working for you? Do you have another script installed that uses the same function (brb script, quick away, or others)?

# by Diatribe on 11/29/05 at 20:22:56

The accounts in the EMD show me as away too, but if I put myself on my buddy list or check via iChat or ask friends, my status does in fact change. The new status has in fact a check mark in the general status in the EMD but the separate statuses show the old status. Seems to be a bug in Adium but shouldn't affect the functionality of this script.

I am currently working on version 2.0 which will set the msn status too, let you insert a countdown to let people know when you'll be back and other nifty things. I hope to finish it this year, so stay tuned.

# by neilio_x on 02/17/07 at 21:40:37

this is excellent. super handy. stoked for 2.0

# by Diatribe on 02/22/07 at 15:41:16

Thanks for the kind words. Just to let everyone know, the scripting functionality in Adium is rocky at best right now and v2.0 will have to wait until this is fixed. Sorry for creating false anticipation. I still plan on updating this script but it is dependent on the scripting support in Adium.

# by HuoMaKe on 04/01/07 at 23:18:52

I put up a new script derived from this, want to thank the developer for the code and point you all to it, it's called Show Status.

# by HuoMaKe on 04/01/07 at 23:19:15

But it is not yet approved. Sorry :(

# by huski on 08/21/08 at 20:33:39

Sounds good, thanks.

# by ndgreer on 08/28/08 at 15:10:28

I just installed this and it doesn't work for me. I'm using version 1.3 and I don't have any other applescripts installed. Any idea why it doesn't work?

# by MrCakes14 on 10/12/08 at 20:22:17

I can't get this to work either, unfortunately. I like the idea, and I'd like to see some sort of way to customize (I know that's a pain with AppleScript)...great idea, but I have to hold back until there's a working version for 1.3 :

# by erics4 on 03/19/09 at 04:26:33

I've edited this script to work in 1.3, but I haven't submitted it because I want to get permission from Diatribe, however I don't know the best way to do so.
