Description

PalPics
User Icon Backup Script

PalPics is a user icon backup script for Adium, able to save the pictures of your contacts.
It performs an incremental backup, skipping duplicates.

Current version should support all IM services, except Bonjour.

Shortcuts:
/pp
/pps (Silent mode - no result notification)

Known Bug: Due to a limitation of Applescript, PalPics will handle up to 700 unique images, and not more.

Changes

Added support for Adium 1.3
Dropped support for Mac OS X versions prior to 10.4
Dropped Bonjour support

I can easily add support for any other protocol (AIM, yahoo, jabber and so on). I just need to chat with someone using these accounts. Contact me so we can work it out!

Ok, I've find the pictures in pictures folders.....Good!

# by calebk on 01/11/07 at 05:41:03

I tried typing /pp and the alert that says 'please wait' appears. However, no photos appear in my folder. What's wrong?

Thanks for pointing it out. It was a rare bug, concerning wrong management of temporary files, but now it's fixed.
PalPics works well with Adium v1.0.

Cool! 5 ducks!

I've found a bug: due to a limitation of Applescript, PalPics will handle up to 700 unique images, and not more.
If you reach that number, I suggest you to archive all the pictures to a new folder. PalPics will start collecting new images again.

It doesn't work on leopard :-(

# by tureturillo on 10/29/07 at 12:34:27

OK, thanks for reporting. I have no leopards around, so I can't work on it now. As soon as I will upgrade, I'll fix it!

# by tureturillo on 11/23/07 at 09:47:51

OK, I catched a leopard!
And quickly I fixed the script.

I know I'm off on a tangent here...., Interesting script, I have a thought. I have no idea how difficult it would be but no one else seems to have done it yet. Please correct me if I've missed it! I have searched for a script to archive dialog more so than pictures but a combination of the two would be awesome. Look like it's a possible feature down the road but it's been waiting forever for something or the other to be done. How hard would it be to strip the text from the history files and duplicate it into a contact folder along with their pictures? You could then clear your Chat transcript viewer and know that you having a running history building in the contact folder. What brought this up is a problem with a contact and I have a hunch I've reached a limit on text in the Chat transcript and I want to clear it. The only way I can to save the text is to Print it, no I don't have that much ink, the files are stored in /user/username/application support/adium 2.0/user/default/logs and remind me of the way that iChat used to create a folder in your Documents folder for it's transcripts. Hey it's just a thought! I'll give PalPic's a whirl! once it's Pard Patible:)

Yes, this is an idea for a brand new Xtra.
Personally, I sometimes backup the whole logs folder and then empty it. You might find this solution useful...

hello everyone,
i don't undertand this script. i type in /pp and some pictures will be stored in my pictures folder. all right. but when i look into my folder i see unfamiliar pictures with icq numbers that i don't even have in my contact list.
so please explain this to me.
thanks

# by tureturillo on 02/09/08 at 21:10:37

PalPics doesn't download anything, it just extracts images from the cache files stored on your Mac. This means that, if those pictures don't belong to your contact list, then your copy of Adium has been used at least once to log into another account.

With version 2.0 every IM service should be supported (but not Bonjour), please contact me directly if you notice anything wrong. My e-mail address is in the ReadMe.

# by ChicanoDesigns on 01/09/09 at 20:54:03

is there a way i can save full view images?

# by lycosman on 04/10/10 at 16:01:14

Can it save animated GIFs? They're the only kind of images that I can't find on the backup folder...

# by lycosman on 04/10/10 at 16:21:35

Nevermind. It does. I just had to do it a second time.
